Trust the Process

That Feeling When: You want to trust the path God has you on, but man, it’s taking a long time AND it came with a lot more uncertainty than you thought it would.…….No? Just me?
I think not. This situation is all too relatable. We’ve prayed, we’ve asked, we’ve seeked, we’ve read, we’ve waited…..and waited, and waited, and waited. It’s natural for the flesh to want to give up and say “well maybe that’s not what God said” or “Maybe I should just go ahead and figure out a backup plan on my own, just in case.”
How foolish of the flesh to believe that our meager human knowledge is more insightful than an immeasurable, all powerful God. Good thing we don’t let our flesh take the lead, right?
Hebrews 10:35-36 is the perfect word for when we find ourselves in situations where our trust in God may be faltering. It says:
“So do not throw away this confident trust in the Lord. Remember the great reward it brings you! Patient endurance is what you need now, so that you will continue to do God’s will. Then you will receive all that he has promised.”
Hebrews 10:35-36 NLT
Hebrews encourages us to maintain our confident trust in the Lord our God and to remember that comes with great benefits! Of course we can SAY we trust God because that’s what we know we SHOULD say and be doing, but if we waiver and falter in that confident trust, then the words are just that.
Confidence is the feeling or belief that one can rely on someone or something. When we trust in God with true confidence, it means that we can lean on him with our full weight without fear that he will drop us or let us down. When we learn to release that control we want to hold onto and not try to hold back weight from God, then he can sweep us up and carry us through the rough patches.
This doesn’t mean that we won’t run into obstacles or get scarred along the way.
The word endurance is the fact, or power of bearing an unpleasant or difficult process or situation without giving way. Patient endurance is knowing that it takes time and development to get through those unpleasant situations along our path. Hebrews says this is what we need to continue on the path God has laid out for us, but it promises that there will be reward in the end because God will not allow us to endure in vain.
So today, I encourage you to take a moment with God to pray and allow him to show you that plan or thing you’ve been holding onto that is standing in the way your confident trust in him. Ask God to help you remove that thing from His place. Ask Him to strengthen your patience and endurance so that you will continue to walk out His will for you and receive all the goodness He has waiting for your life.
Amen.
